Marty MacMillan Pours His Heart And Soul Into Each Guitar…

I hopped in a Uber and headed from Nashville to Mt. Juliet, TN. I was so excited the entire ride to get to MacMillan Guitars and see their amazing shop. As I pulled up and walked in I felt like a kid at Christmas. Marty has his shop set up in sections where each step in the process is completed. Marty is an amazing person with such a passion for what he does. The end product is just amazing. I truly recommend if you are an artist, guitar lover or just a collector you have to see and hear the MacMillan Guitar. They are simply amazing and one of the best sounding guitars I have heard! Enjoy this interview as we take a look into Marty’s background and his career.

I was so impressed with the work that Marty does the moment I got back to my hotel room I messaged him that I needed to get a guitar. I am going to bring you step by step photos of the guitar on social media along the way. This is going to be a B Chord Original! Lyssa Coulter Will Be Playing “After Midnight” On Her Path To Becoming A Country Star …

We had the chance to sit down with Lyssa Coulter, up and coming country artist out of New England. Lyssa told us about her new EP to her song writing process as well as inspiration to young dreamers. We hope you enjoy and Lyssa thank you so much. Your passion is overflowing and we see big things in your future!

B Chord: “After Midnight” is out, congratulations!! This is your new Ep that can be purchased on your website. You also just released your single “Whiskey in the Twilight” so let’s talk about it! I know you have to be excited!

Lyssa Coulter: I wrote “Whiskey in the Twilight” with my friend Roger Hagopian who is an amazing songwriter out here in New England. He came up with the idea just talking and said let’s do something fun and summer related and that’s how the song came about. It’s probably one of my favorite songs off the EP and I recorded it in Nashville with Chris Parker at Digital Timbre Studios. I am just so excited because it really shows everyone what my music really is. This is so exciting because I have only been doing this for a year and it’s so incredible that I’m letting people know what my music is and where I am coming from and my emotions throughout this entire thing.

B Chord: Tell us a little of your background and how you got into country music.

Lyssa Coulter: I actually lived in Medway, Massachusetts for a while and we ended up moving out here to Westborough, Mass where I ended up changing schools in my senior year of high school. I found this local voice coach in my town that exposed me to not only improving my voice but becoming an artist. This was so important to me. I never thought I could ever be a Carrie Underwood or Kelsea Ballerini, which was just a fairytale to me at the time. Once I started taking voice lessons and learned how to book gigs it just grew from there and by the fourth month in, I was recording my first single in Nashville. When I found out that I could do it, I was on a roll. I tell young people to do what you love, my message to them is “ Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.”

B Chord: What are Lyssa’s goals for 2018?

Lyssa Coulter: I think I am getting ready to move out of New England and start playing in the southern states like Florida where I have lots of family and friends and Nashville. I’m just trying to branch out of New England right now. I think that it is really important to break out of your hometown. It is incredibly different when you book a show in a place other than New England. Looking forward to 2019, I am hoping that I can work something out with the CMA Festival and getting a new album out.

B Chord: I love the song “By My Side!” I know you got some airplay and accolades on that song, can you tell us a little about writing that one?

Lyssa Coulter: So “By My Side” was the first song that I ever wrote. It’s a little crazy because you don’t see many artists putting out their first song that they ever wrote. I was doing a song writing seminar and I came home and said okay let’s just try to write a song. So I took everything that I was feeling at that moment put it together. My family and I are very close and people say it is a great relationship song. It’s very family oriented and that’s where I got the idea from…. just being with people that you love, your friends and family. As long as I am with my friends and family I am happy. That’s where I pulled my inspiration from.

B Chord: What are some of your favorite spots to play up in the Boston area?

Lyssa Coulter: A few of my favorite spots… I think that my number one favorite spot is the Smokehouse BBQ where I will be playing on January 26th. The staff is so friendly and they have speakers outside and the food is incredible. Another one would be Indian Ranch they do a lot of big concerts but I had the chance to play in their first ever local country fest. It’s a very fun place. One more….I really like playing Patriot Place which of course is the home of our New England Patriots. They usually have a lot of outdoor things going on and I just love the venue. I had my name on their big marque sign that they have in front of the shopping center. It was really cool.

B Chord: What is the typical writing process like for you?

Lyssa Coulter: My writing process is really different each time that I go to write. A lot of it is if I’m in a really bad mood, I will write a song. I don’t know why but you tend to write the best stuff when you are not in the best moods. I guess that’s when the emotions get flowing. I start playing around with chords on my guitar and then I just go for it. Co-writing is a little different, we come up with an idea and then we go off of that idea and see where it brings us. You have two brains working which is really great.

B Chord: Let’s do a get to know Lyssa:
B Chord: Favorite food?

Lyssa Coulter: Ice Cream

B Chord: Favorite artist?

Lyssa Coulter: Kelsea Ballerini

B Chord: Favorite vacation spot?

Lyssa Coulter: Disney World

B Chord: Favorite store to shop?

Lyssa Coulter: Walmart is like my store. It is so great people watching.

B Chord: Favorite spot in Nashville?

Lyssa Coulter: I actually have two. One is Love Circle because it is so beautiful and then the other is Broadway. I love all of the neon lights. Sparkles and lights are my thing.

B Chord: You are stranded on an island and you can take only one instrument with you. What would the instrument be and why?

Lyssa Coulter: Probably my guitar. I have an Ibanez. It’s really pretty and my dad gave it to me. Whenever I have an idea when I’m in the car, I am always like “why don’t I have my guitar.”

I want to thank all my family friends and fans for being so supportive. I know that is why I have been able to continue with this goal. Becoming a musician is a very difficult thing in general and without them we wouldn’t be able to do it.

“Don’t Stop” Lauren Davidson! Your Passion Is Contagious..

I had the privilege of talking with Lauren Davidson about her EP, life, songwriting and being a country singer from New York. Some people don’t realize that country music is everywhere and you need to get out and see Lauren. She is an amazing talent and when she sings you can’t help but be pulled into the song. We wish her all the best and please download her EP! Thank you so much for the interview Lauren, keep up the great work.

B Chord: Lauren, give us a little background about your musical upbringing and how you got started in the business.

Lauren Davidson: I’m an urban country singer/songwriter from New York City who got started with my career at a very young age. My Dad was a singer/songwriter and I’ve been singing ever since I was very little and loved it and then began doing theatre. As I got older, I kind of grew out of the theatre and more into the songwriting and singing and decided to pursue a career as an artist.

B Chord: What is it like to be a country artist in the New York/New Jersey area? A lot of people don’t realize that it is one of the largest markets.

Lauren Davidson: Country radio in this area (New York City) has brought out all of these people that love country music and bring us all together from the northeast corridor. Nash FM has been huge for this area. All of these people and fans are here and have been so welcoming of my music. New York City is such an eclectic city where not everyone is doing music. There is a very strong fan base and following in this area. They just opened a bar fashioned like the Grand Ole Opry, Opry City Stage and I have played there a couple times. The first time that I walked in, I realized that there is a little piece of Nashville now in New York City. I think it is going to change the game for country music in this area.

B Chord: So I saw where you were on the Corvette Nations Video, tell us a little about how that happened?

Lauren Davidson: One of the guys that worked on the show contacted me to do a cover of Route 66 to be featured on their episode. The episode basically takes the corvette through various stops along Route 66 all the way from the beginning to the end. We filmed this video and they featured it at the beginning of the episode.

B Chord: The new EP “Hear Me” is terrific. Can you tell us a little of how long you have been working on this project and how it came about?

Lauren Davidson: The EP was released a little over a year ago on October 7th and prior to that we were working on it in the studio for about 6 months. Because it was my first EP and I had only released two singles, I had all of my songs to choose from and was able to carefully select the ones that really showcased who I really am as an artist. A lot of the songs I had already been performing live. Now that the EP is done, picking songs for singles gives me a lot less to choose from.

B Chord: “Don’t Stop” is your new single. Tell us a little about the song and meaning.

Lauren Davidson: Basically the idea of never giving up on your dreams no matter what they are. Sometimes we have to do things that we really don’t want to do, but no matter what never give up.

B Chord: “Right Here With Me” is my favorite song on the album! I love your vocals and it is a fun love song. How did you come up with that one?

Lauren Davidson: Thank you and that is so funny because it is one of my favorites too and it almost didn’t make the EP. When we were in the studio recording, we had four different songs that we were going to use and we couldn’t decide if we needed a fifth. I write a lot with my Dad and I was up late one night by myself and I had this idea in my head and just start jammin’ some chords down and wrote pretty much the first verse of that song. The next day my Dad came into New York City for us to write and we just popped the song out. We both loved it so much that we decided to include an acoustic version of this song on the EP. I just fell in love with the arrangement of the track and that’s how we have performed it live. It was almost unexpected the way it all happened

B Chord: Where did you film the video for that song?

Lauren Davidson: We filmed the video in Little Stoney Point which is just north of the Jersey/New York border. We basically walked up the mountain and found this place that had a gorgeous overlook and had our video done in about two hours. Austin Hein, was the one who picked the spot and he filmed the video so I can’t take the credit for the location. He did great.

B Chord: Do you have a plan to turn the EP into an album?

Lauren Davidson: We are definitely working on new music in the early portion of the New Year. I think we are going to release a couple of singles. I think it is just a better way to get my music out to my fans more quickly. There may possibly be another EP later.

B Chord: Some of your biggest musical inspirations?

Lauren Davidson: Steve Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Carole King, Grace Potter, Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris. I am really digging her music right now!

B Chord: Where can people see you play if they want to get out and see you live?

Lauren Davidson: We mainly perform in the tri-state area, but we will be touring a little more and branching out. My next show, I will be hosting a Christmas show at Maxwell’s Tavern in Hoboken on December 21st. It is going to be a big country music Christmas party. After that in the New Year, I will be playing The Palace Theatre in the Stamford, Connecticut area.

B Chord: What is your biggest guilty pleasure song that you will put on and look around to be sure no one is listening?

Lauren Davidson: I don’t have a specific song, but I love the 90’s pop songs, like Brittany Spears and all of the boy bands. I am not even ashamed of it and I can’t stop smiling while they play.

B Chord: You are stranded on an island and you can take only one instrument with you. What would the instrument be and why?

Lauren Davidson: Probably my guitar. It is a Breedlove and was a birthday present last year. It was a special birthday. When my father turned the same age, he received an acoustic guitar as well. The Breedlove is amazing and really cute. Yes, it would have to be my guitar.

I highly recommend seeing Lauren the next time she is in your area. We have attached some of her music and website below. Thank you again Lauren.
