Lyssa Coulter Will Be Playing “After Midnight” On Her Path To Becoming A Country Star …

We had the chance to sit down with Lyssa Coulter, up and coming country artist out of New England. Lyssa told us about her new EP to her song writing process as well as inspiration to young dreamers. We hope you enjoy and Lyssa thank you so much. Your passion is overflowing and we see big things in your future!

B Chord: “After Midnight” is out, congratulations!! This is your new Ep that can be purchased on your website. You also just released your single “Whiskey in the Twilight” so let’s talk about it! I know you have to be excited!

Lyssa Coulter: I wrote “Whiskey in the Twilight” with my friend Roger Hagopian who is an amazing songwriter out here in New England. He came up with the idea just talking and said let’s do something fun and summer related and that’s how the song came about. It’s probably one of my favorite songs off the EP and I recorded it in Nashville with Chris Parker at Digital Timbre Studios. I am just so excited because it really shows everyone what my music really is. This is so exciting because I have only been doing this for a year and it’s so incredible that I’m letting people know what my music is and where I am coming from and my emotions throughout this entire thing.

B Chord: Tell us a little of your background and how you got into country music.

Lyssa Coulter: I actually lived in Medway, Massachusetts for a while and we ended up moving out here to Westborough, Mass where I ended up changing schools in my senior year of high school. I found this local voice coach in my town that exposed me to not only improving my voice but becoming an artist. This was so important to me. I never thought I could ever be a Carrie Underwood or Kelsea Ballerini, which was just a fairytale to me at the time. Once I started taking voice lessons and learned how to book gigs it just grew from there and by the fourth month in, I was recording my first single in Nashville. When I found out that I could do it, I was on a roll. I tell young people to do what you love, my message to them is “ Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.”

B Chord: What are Lyssa’s goals for 2018?

Lyssa Coulter: I think I am getting ready to move out of New England and start playing in the southern states like Florida where I have lots of family and friends and Nashville. I’m just trying to branch out of New England right now. I think that it is really important to break out of your hometown. It is incredibly different when you book a show in a place other than New England. Looking forward to 2019, I am hoping that I can work something out with the CMA Festival and getting a new album out.

B Chord: I love the song “By My Side!” I know you got some airplay and accolades on that song, can you tell us a little about writing that one?

Lyssa Coulter: So “By My Side” was the first song that I ever wrote. It’s a little crazy because you don’t see many artists putting out their first song that they ever wrote. I was doing a song writing seminar and I came home and said okay let’s just try to write a song. So I took everything that I was feeling at that moment put it together. My family and I are very close and people say it is a great relationship song. It’s very family oriented and that’s where I got the idea from…. just being with people that you love, your friends and family. As long as I am with my friends and family I am happy. That’s where I pulled my inspiration from.

B Chord: What are some of your favorite spots to play up in the Boston area?

Lyssa Coulter: A few of my favorite spots… I think that my number one favorite spot is the Smokehouse BBQ where I will be playing on January 26th. The staff is so friendly and they have speakers outside and the food is incredible. Another one would be Indian Ranch they do a lot of big concerts but I had the chance to play in their first ever local country fest. It’s a very fun place. One more….I really like playing Patriot Place which of course is the home of our New England Patriots. They usually have a lot of outdoor things going on and I just love the venue. I had my name on their big marque sign that they have in front of the shopping center. It was really cool.

B Chord: What is the typical writing process like for you?

Lyssa Coulter: My writing process is really different each time that I go to write. A lot of it is if I’m in a really bad mood, I will write a song. I don’t know why but you tend to write the best stuff when you are not in the best moods. I guess that’s when the emotions get flowing. I start playing around with chords on my guitar and then I just go for it. Co-writing is a little different, we come up with an idea and then we go off of that idea and see where it brings us. You have two brains working which is really great.

B Chord: Let’s do a get to know Lyssa:
B Chord: Favorite food?

Lyssa Coulter: Ice Cream

B Chord: Favorite artist?

Lyssa Coulter: Kelsea Ballerini

B Chord: Favorite vacation spot?

Lyssa Coulter: Disney World

B Chord: Favorite store to shop?

Lyssa Coulter: Walmart is like my store. It is so great people watching.

B Chord: Favorite spot in Nashville?

Lyssa Coulter: I actually have two. One is Love Circle because it is so beautiful and then the other is Broadway. I love all of the neon lights. Sparkles and lights are my thing.

B Chord: You are stranded on an island and you can take only one instrument with you. What would the instrument be and why?

Lyssa Coulter: Probably my guitar. I have an Ibanez. It’s really pretty and my dad gave it to me. Whenever I have an idea when I’m in the car, I am always like “why don’t I have my guitar.”

I want to thank all my family friends and fans for being so supportive. I know that is why I have been able to continue with this goal. Becoming a musician is a very difficult thing in general and without them we wouldn’t be able to do it.

Jessie Chris Will “Burn” A Spot In Your Heart And Playlist….

Jessie Chris is an American country musician who splits her time between Nashville and Massachusetts. I had the chance to chat with her just before she hopped a flight to Nashville for the CMA Awards in Nashville. I have to say you could tell by just talking to her how much passion she has in everything she is involved in. I am telling y’all right now, make sure you keep Jessie Chris on your radar because I see big things coming her way! Here is a little bit of background on her we got off her website for you.

At 18 years old Jessie was the youngest performer at the 2015 CMA Festival and has opened for iconic artists to include Luke Bryan, Chris Young, John Rich, Trace Adkins and Billy Ray Cyrus and has performed at The Country Music Hall of Fame.  She recently released her new single “BURN” to radio.  She returned to the CMA Festival in 2017 with a performance on the Radio Disney Country Stage.

She has been a proud supporter and one of the faces of Disney’s #ChooseKindness Anti-Bullying Campaign. She recently joined Kelsea Ballerini, LOCASH, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina on the Disney healing anthem “The Human Race” which reached #6 on iTunes Hot Tracks.

We hope you enjoy and again, thank you Jessie Chris for chatting with us and all that you are doing from music to helping out good people!
B Chord: Tell us a little about your past month and what has been going on in the world of Jessie Chris?

Jessie Chris: For the past month or so, I have actually been working on my next album which is coming out in 2018. I have also been doing a lot of school and anti-bullying shows and I’m also working on getting a children’s book published.

B Chord: I absolutely love your song “Burn.”  Is it off your debut album Wildfires or was it an older song you then released?

Jessie Chris: Aww thank you so much!  Well, “Burn” is completely separate and will actually be on my next album and it is transitioning into my next sound. I am really looking forward to it.

B Chord: Tell us a little about the writing process.  Did you write this on your own or did you have a co-writer?

Jessie Chris: Me and the producer David Spencer wrote that song.

B Chord: Where did you film the video for “Burn?”

Jessie Chris: The video was filmed in Rhode Island. The director is really good at scouting out locations. The location that he chose looked like it was a movie set but it was a real neighborhood that looked perfect. It was really a lot of fun! I even had my own fake house for it.

B Chord: We have to ask and I think that I already know the answer, but you have a new album in the works. When can we expect it to be released?

Jessie Chris: Definitely in 2018. I am hoping in January.

B Chord: How did it feel when you found out you were the first country artist to win the Elvis Duran Artist of the Month and got the chance to play on NBC’s Today Show?

Jessie Chris: Oh that was insane! I still don’t feel like that actually happened. I’m definitely very grateful and it still blows my mind.

B Chord: You have opened for some incredible artists such as: Luke Bryan, Chris Young, John Rich and Billy Ray Cyrus to name a few. You have opened for all of them are there any awesome stories that come to mind from any of these performances?

Jessie Chris: One of my favorite experiences was getting to sing with Billy Ray Cyrus because I grew up watching him on Hannah Montana with his daughter. We got to sing “Achy Breaky Heart” and it made my childhood complete. Multiple generations know of him.

B Chord: How is Willow the hedgehog doing? Does Willow tour with you?

Jessie Chris: Willow is my best friend’s hedgehog. She brought it over the other night for girls’ night to watch a movie. Willow is a girl so she was allowed to hang out with us for movie night.

B Chord: So one of the coolest things we have heard about you, is that you are an advocate for the #choosekindness anti-bullying campaign. Can you give us some background about how and why you decided to join this awesome group?

Jessie Chris: I have been traveling around doing an anti-bullying campaigns since the age of sixteen. Disney asked me to be the face for their Choose Kindness campaign. I am now the face for Sylvania Light’s Be The Light campaign. It was really neat to have these large companies jump on board of something that I believe strongly in and having their support. They are all just really cool people and I am glad to be on board with them.

B Chord: What is the one thing you miss most when you aren’t in the Boston area?

Jessie Chris: Oh, the one thing I miss the clam chowder because it is not the same anywhere else. People say it is good but it not the same and it just tastes so bad.

B Chord: Do you say Pop?

Jessie Chris: No, but I have cousins that live in the mid-west that do. We just say soda.

B Chord: You are on your way to Nashville for the CMA awards. Do you have anything lined up when you get there?

Jessie Chris: Just a bunch of interviews, meeting up with friends and industry people and attending the show. I also will be attending some after parties. It will be a lot of fun.

B Chord: Do you have a favorite female artist that you would like to see win tonight?

Jessie Chris: That is a really hard question since there are so many talented women. I really feel it is hard to just pick one.  I was really excited to see Pink will be there.

B Chord: We ask every artist the same question and here it goes, you are stranded on an island and you can take only one instrument with you. What would the instrument be and why?

Jessie Chris: It would have to be the ukulele, because it would keep me in the island mood. I barely know how to play it, but it would give me something to learn while being stranded.

I really want to thank Jessie Chris so much for doing this and taking the time out of her schedule to talk to us. Please look below and listen to her music and follow her on all her links.
